Belgium’s X Account Just Trolled the USMNT With Two Words After a 4-1 Win

Belgium didn’t just beat the USMNT on Monday. They kept swinging after the final whistle.

The Red Devils rolled past the United States 4-1 in a Round of 16 match at Lumen Field in Seattle, and their social media team made sure nobody forgot it. On X, the Belgian national team account posted two words aimed directly at the Americans: “Overturn this.”

The message was paired with a picture of a player cupping his ear — a clear taunt directed at the USMNT’s push to get Folarin Balogun’s red card overturned. Balogun was sent off in the Round of 32 against Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the U.S. Soccer Federation had appealed the suspension. The post basically says: yeah, you tried to get him back, and we still ran you off the field.

The timing is the real kicker here. Balogun’s red card had been a major talking point leading up to the match. U.S. fans and some analysts argued the call was harsh. Belgium’s social media team saw an opening and took it. It’s not subtle. It’s not meant to be.

What happened in the game

Belgium came out sharp and never really let up. They scored twice in the first half and added two more after the break. The USMNT got one back late, but the game was long decided by then. Belgium’s attacking trio carved up the American defense all night, and the midfield struggled to keep possession.

The 4-1 scoreline was the worst World Cup loss for the USMNT since 1998. And losing at home made it sting more. Seattle’s crowd was loud early, but Belgium silenced them with every goal.

As for Balogun, he watched from the stands. The appeal didn’t get him back on the field in time, and the USMNT looked thin without him up top. Christian Pulisic tried to create chances, but Belgium’s backline handled most of what the U.S. threw at them.

What comes next

The U.S. is out of the World Cup. Belgium moves on to the quarterfinals. And the troll job will probably follow the USMNT through the rest of this tournament cycle. Social media never forgets a good burn, and “Overturn this” is going to stick around for a while.

This story will be updated if more developments come in from U.S. Soccer or Belgium’s camp.
