Will Wade didn’t waste any time making LSU basketball interesting again. After returning to Baton Rouge in March, he’s already added a name that college hoops fans might recognize from a very specific, very loud moment.
Amir Khan, the 23-year-old who became an internet sensation during McNeese State’s 2025 NCAA Tournament run, is joining Wade’s staff at LSU as a student-manager. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein broke the news.
For anyone who missed it: Khan, nicknamed “Aura,” was the guy leading McNeese’s pregame walkouts. He’d carry a boombox, wear heavy chains and rap along to the music as the team made its way onto the court. The Cowboys treated him like a lucky charm. And honestly? They had a point. McNeese made noise in the tournament and Khan’s viral entrances became part of the story.
How Khan Ended Up Back With Wade
This isn’t Khan’s first rodeo with Wade. He followed the head coach from McNeese to NC State last year before circling back to the Cowboys for this year’s NCAA Tournament. Now Wade is at LSU and Khan is coming along for the ride again.
The timing is interesting. McNeese State knocked off a first-round opponent in the 2025 tournament. NC State, on the other hand, didn’t even make the main bracket after losing in the First Four. So Khan spent March Madness back with the team where his whole “Aura” persona took off.
Wade’s return to LSU has already turned heads. He brought in several international prospects, including Saliou Niang, Marcio Santos, Brice Dessert and Michael Ruzic — guys with professional experience in Europe. Critics were quick to question whether those players would even be eligible. Now Wade is adding a different kind of wild card to the program.
Khan isn’t a player and he’s not going to make a single box score entry. But he brought a certain energy to McNeese that fans latched onto. At a time when Wade is trying to rebuild LSU’s identity after a messy few years, having a recognizable face around the program can’t hurt.
The Tigers haven’t officially confirmed the hire yet. But if this goes through, you can bet Khan’s entrances will be a hot topic when SEC play rolls around.
