Crysencio Summerville might not be at West Ham much longer. After the club went down from the Premier League, a lot of their top guys are looking for exits. Mateus Fernandes already left for Tottenham. Now Summerville is drawing serious interest from Chelsea and Manchester United among others.
According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea have already had some conversations with West Ham about a potential deal. And those talks apparently included the possibility of players heading the other way. That part is interesting because Chelsea have a lot of attacking pieces they might not need anymore.
The big question is whether Summerville would actually pick Chelsea over Manchester United if both came calling. Right now United looks like the more stable project despite their own recent struggles. They’re in the Champions League. Chelsea isn’t. And United have been quietly rebuilding in a way that looks more sustainable than whatever Chelsea’s ownership is doing with their constant roster churn.
Why Chelsea might be in on Summerville
Chelsea signed Alejandro Garnacho from United last summer and it hasn’t worked out. The Argentine struggled in his first season in west London and there’s already chatter about him not fitting the long-term plan. Jamie Gittens also came in last summer and barely made a dent. So Chelsea need wing help and Summerville is a proven Premier League player who can create his own shot.
But here’s the thing. Chelsea have been stuck in this cycle of buying young players and flipping them a year later when they don’t immediately pop. That approach has made the roster feel like a revolving door. Fans have been frustrated with it and Garnacho’s signing was unpopular from day one with a lot of supporters. Summerville would be an upgrade but would he really want to walk into that environment?
United might be the preferred destination
If Summerville has a choice, Old Trafford probably wins. United can offer Champions League football and a more settled club structure under their current management. Plus Summerville already knows the Premier League and the pressure that comes with a big club. That matters.
West Ham’s relegation changes everything for him. He’s too good for the Championship and everyone knows it. The only question is which of these interested clubs actually follows through with a real offer. Fulham are also in the mix but they’re a step down from United and Chelsea in terms of pure ambition.
For now nothing is close to done. But the dominoes are lining up. Chelsea and West Ham have had contact. Manchester United are lurking. And Summerville is waiting to see which door opens first.
