Newcastle Pays Club-Record Fee to Pull Ivorian Star From Hoffenheim

Newcastle United just made a statement. And it cost them around €50 million.

The club officially confirmed the signing of Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim on Sunday, making the 22-year-old Ivorian winger the most expensive purchase in Newcastle’s history. The fee eclipses the €44 million they shelled out for Joelinton back in 2019.

Touré only joined Hoffenheim in February 2025 from Swedish club Hammarby. But in roughly 18 months in the Bundesliga, he turned into one of the most dangerous wide players in the league. His pace is the kind that makes defenders cheat backward before the ball even arrives. Hoffenheim finished second in the league last season, and Touré was a big reason why.

“Since joining from Sweden in February 2025, Bazou has undergone an extraordinary development – a fact largely attributable to the coaching team led by Chris Ilzer,” said Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker. “His performances were instrumental in the second-best season in the club’s history.”

Schicker didn’t hide the fact that Hoffenheim would have preferred to keep him. But he also made clear this is how the club operates: buy young, develop, sell high.

“Of course, we would have loved to keep Bazou with us. However, it is in line with TSG’s DNA and our chosen path to sign highly talented players and, together with our coaching team, to develop them systematically and enable them to make the step up to elite clubs,” Schicker said. “We sincerely wish Bazou all the best and much success for his future endeavours and the challenge of the Premier League.”

Touré leaves as Hoffenheim’s biggest sale ever. The previous record was reportedly the €35 million or so they got for another winger a few years back. That number is now dust.

The player himself seemed genuinely emotional about leaving Germany. Touré called Hoffenheim “like a family” in his goodbye statement. He thanked teammates, coaches, staff, and fans. But he also made it clear he’s ready for what comes next.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of the Premier League, but TSG will always hold a special place in my heart,” Touré said.

Newcastle’s attack just got faster. And on a day like this, that’s the only fact that matters.
