Tottenham Set to Announce $130M Tonali Deal While Arsenal Circles Guimaraes Again

The summer transfer window is getting weird in the best way. Tottenham might announce Sandro Tonali as a Spurs player as early as today, and Arsenal is still circling Bruno Guimaraes despite Newcastle already losing Anthony Gordon and maybe Tonali too. Let’s run through what’s actually happening.

Tonali to Spurs is basically done

Tonali flew into Milan on Thursday for his medical with Tottenham. He even did a quick airport interview with Sky in Italy basically confirming the move. The fee is reportedly $130 million total with $120 million upfront and another $10 million in add-ons. Spurs already snagged Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for $110 million on Wednesday, so they’re spending like they’re trying to win something next season. Which they might. Tonali is 26, already proven in the Premier League with Newcastle, and fills a hole in midfield they’ve had since Modric left. Probably.

Arsenal still believes on Guimaraes

The Sun says Arsenal hasn’t given up on signing Bruno Guimaraes. They had an initial offer rejected last week but are apparently coming back with something around $78 million. Newcastle has already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona this window, and now Tonali is walking out the door. Selling both midfielders in one summer seems unlikely, but Arsenal is reportedly working through intermediaries to see if there’s a deal to be made. One problem: Newcastle reportedly wants closer to $130 million for Guimaraes. Another problem: they’d look pretty silly losing their captain and their other star midfielder in the same window.

Arsenal looking at Konsa and Rogers as double deal?

The Telegraph reports Arsenal is interested in Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa in addition to Morgan Rogers. Rogers is supposedly their top priority this window, but Villa could ask for $170 million for him. That’s a lot for a guy who’s been good but not great for a full season. Konsa makes more sense — he’s versatile, can play center-back or right-back, and England internationals rarely come cheap. Arsenal might need him if Ben White leaves. No idea if they can afford both, but they’re definitely trying.

Man United talking to West Ham about Summerville

Manchester United has opened talks with West Ham about Crysencio Summerville, according to Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport. Summerville is expected to leave West Ham after they got relegated to the Championship on the last day of the season. He looked sharp at the World Cup before the Netherlands lost to Morocco on penalties in the round of 32. But here’s the catch: any move probably depends on United selling Marcus Rashford first. Which is not a sure thing, given how much he makes and how inconsistent he’s been.

Man City hijacks Arsenal’s deal for Jeremy Monga

Arsenal had been working on signing 16-year-old Leicester winger Jeremy Monga for a while. Couldn’t get a deal done. Then Manchester City stepped in and agreed a $13 million fee with Leicester. That’s a classic City move — let someone else do the scouting, then just outbid them. Arsenal fans are probably furious. City fans probably don’t care yet because he’s 16.

Chelsea keeps adding

Chelsea already signed Marco Palestra and is still negotiating for Pep Chavarria. They also want Granit Xhaka and Maxence Lacroix. At this point Chelsea just collects players like infinity stones. They’ll probably loan out half of them by January.

Liverpool is being linked with Pedro Neto and Savinho after missing out on Yan Diomande. Nothing is close there yet, but it’s worth watching.
