Collin Murray-Boyles Sheds Rookie Number for His College Digits After Playoff Breakout

Collin Murray-Boyles is done wearing No. 12. The Toronto Raptors sophomore is switching to No. 30, the same jersey he rocked at South Carolina. Ryan Wolstat of The Toronto Sun reported the move, noting Ochai Agbaji wore No. 30 for the Raptors last season.

Why the switch now? Because Murray-Boyles just wrapped a rookie campaign that turned heads, especially during the playoffs. He averaged 8.5 points, five rebounds and 1.9 assists in 21.9 minutes per game last season, shooting 57.9% from the field and 34% from three. Those numbers alone don’t tell the whole story, though.

In the first round against Cleveland, Murray-Boyles dropped 22 points and grabbed eight boards in a Game 3 win. He averaged 14.4 points in that series and basically dared anyone to call it a fluke. “I’m not afraid of the moment,” he said afterward, and the quote aged well.

Darko Rajakovic’s Take on His Young Gun

Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic didn’t hold back when asked about Murray-Boyles last season. According to The Athletic, Rajakovic called him “the ultimate competitor.”

“What I love about CMB is he’s the ultimate competitor,” Rajakovic said. “He is a winner, he is a warrior, he does not care who’s on the other side, he does not care what (your name is), he does not care about your previous achievements. He does not get fazed by that.”

That kind of praise from a coach who’s seen plenty of rookies means something. Murray-Boyles isn’t just filling a stat sheet. He’s earning minutes in a rotation that now includes Kawhi Leonard after Toronto traded for the star wing this offseason. Suddenly, the Eastern Conference looks a lot more interesting for this team.

What No. 30 Means Now

The number change feels like closing a chapter. Murray-Boyles wore 30 in college, and going back to it signals he’s ready to build on that rookie foundation. Fans online were quick to dig up his South Carolina highlights and start speculating about a sophomore leap.

Toronto’s young core — Scottie Barnes, Gradey Dick, now Murray-Boyles with a fresh number — could make some noise if the chemistry clicks. And with Leonard in the mix, the Raptors aren’t just developing. They’re trying to win now.

Murray-Boyles will debut No. 30 when the preseason tips off. The regular season schedule hasn’t dropped yet, but Toronto’s first game should draw a crowd. People want to see if that playoff fire carries over.
