Norway’s Manager Just Called Out Carlo Ancelotti. That’s Not the Wildest Part.

Norway is through to the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, and the way they got there was pure chaos. Erling Haaland poached a late winner against Ivory Coast in the 86th minute, capping off a 2-1 win that felt anything but comfortable. But what happened in the locker room after the final whistle is already louder than anything that happened on the pitch.

The Norwegian Football Federation posted a video on X that caught their head coach mid-speech. He was emotional, praising the team’s grit and their place in the tournament. Then he looked straight into the camera and dropped a direct message to Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti: “We are coming for you.”

That’s not the kind of thing you hear every day from a national team coach, especially one whose squad just survived a knockout match where they were arguably outplayed for long stretches. Ivory Coast had plenty of chances. Amad Diallo equalized in the 74th minute, and for a while it felt like Norway might crumble. But Oscar Bobb came off the bench, threaded a pass to Patrick Berg, and Berg’s low cross found Haaland in the right place at the right time. Heavy touch, scramble, ball over the line. Classic striker stuff.

The challenge to Ancelotti has turned the upcoming Brazil vs. Norway showdown into something bigger than just a Round of 16 match. It’s got real heat now. Ancelotti hasn’t responded publicly yet, but you can bet Brazil’s camp heard it.

Haaland Went Full Texan

After the game in Arlington, Haaland decided the best way to celebrate was to lean into the local culture. He posted photos on social media wearing a full cowboy outfit: hat, boots, Western shirt. The caption just said: “Howdy!”

It was a light moment after a tense match. Antonio Nusa had opened the scoring for Norway in the 39th minute, and the crowd at Dallas Stadium was treated to a genuine back-and-forth before Haaland’s heroics ended it. Norway now faces a Brazil team that has looked sharp this tournament, but nothing about this World Cup has gone according to script so far. And now you’ve got a Norwegian manager willing to stare down one of the most decorated coaches in the sport and tell him they’re coming.

That’s a real story. Whether it’s confidence or something else, we’ll find out soon enough. Brazil and Norway meet later this week. No shortage of drama already.
