Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride didn’t hold back when talking about the Seattle Seahawks. On the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast, he called Lumen Field a hostile environment and had some choice words for Seattle’s defense.
“That’s a tough place to play,” McBride said. “Their defense is a bunch of shit talkers. They have a really good team, too. I feel like every time we go to Seattle, it’s such a hostile environment.”
He’s not the first player to say it. The Seahawks’ home crowd has been legendary ever since Marshawn Lynch’s “Beast Quake” run shook the stadium in 2010. That noise combined with a defense built to get under your skin makes for a long afternoon. Mike Macdonald’s schemes kept offenses guessing last season, and Seattle rode that to a Super Bowl title for the first time since 2014.
Still, McBride actually played well at Lumen Field last season. He hauled in nine of 13 targets for 127 yards and a touchdown. Seattle loaded up to stop him, and he still produced. That’s why he’s one of the league’s top tight ends.
The Seahawks lost some key pieces this offseason. Guys like Coby Bryant, Tariq Woolen and Boye Mafe walked in free agency. But the core is still intact, and Seattle plays in the NFC West alongside the Rams and 49ers. That division is a meat grinder. Every game matters.
McBride admitted Seattle is a problem. But the Cardinals have to prove they’re a problem too. Arizona is still rebuilding, and games like this one will show how far they’ve come. The NFC is wide open. Seattle has a strong case to come out of it again. But they’ll have to do it without some of the names that helped them get there last time.
We’ll see how this year’s team looks when they kick things off. One thing is certain: no one’s looking forward to a trip to Seattle.
