Benfica isn’t sweating the AC Milan rumors right now. The Portuguese club feels pretty good about its chances of signing António Silva to a new deal, and early chatter about the Italian giants swooping in appears to be overblown.
According to Glorioso 1904, Milan hasn’t made a concrete move for the 22-year-old center-back. Reports out of Italy last week claimed the Rossoneri were close to a deal worth around €20 million plus €5 million in add-ons, with super-agent Jorge Mendes helping steer conversations. Some of those reports even linked the potential move to discussions about Gonçalo Ramos as part of a larger package.
But A Bola is telling a different story. The Portuguese outlet says Milan isn’t prioritizing Silva and isn’t willing to pay those numbers. Sources close to the situation point to Ruben Amorim having other roster needs that take precedence right now.
There was also talk of a five-year agreement worth roughly €3 million per season for Silva. That hasn’t been confirmed by anyone in the player’s camp or at Benfica, and no real progress has been made between the two sides.
Benfica’s Pitch Is Clear
Benfica’s stance hasn’t changed. They want to lock down one of their most valuable assets, plain and simple. Club president Rui Costa and director Mário Branco have both expressed confidence in getting a renewal done. They’ve said the ball is in Silva’s court now.
The club has put a new offer on the table, and it’s reportedly getting close to the €2 million net per season Silva has been asking for. But it’s not just about the money. Silva is also weighing the sporting project in Lisbon and his role under manager Marco Silva. Those factors are central to the negotiations.
Benfica doesn’t see Milan’s interest as a real threat, at least not at this point. The Italians have other holes to fill, and unless they come back with a significantly different offer or a higher priority tag, Silva likely stays put for now.
What happens next depends almost entirely on the player. Does he take the improved deal and stay in Lisbon, where he’s already a key piece? Or does he hold out, hoping something bigger materializes before the window closes? For now, Benfica’s optimism seems warranted.
