Dak Prescott Is Ready for More Trash Talk From Dallas Defenders. That Defense Might Be Different.

Dak Prescott Is Ready for More Trash Talk From Dallas Defenders. That Defense Might Be Different.

The Dallas Cowboys defense has a message for Dak Prescott, and apparently he loves it. They’ve told him the pocket is going to be a mess when the pads go on in Oxnard. They plan to get after him. They plan to talk about it while they do.

And instead of asking his offensive linemen to tone it down, Prescott called the trash talk “awesome.” That tells you something about the energy shift on that side of the ball. For a quarterback heading into his 11th season with back-to-back playoff absences on his resume, he’s not looking for comfort. He’s looking for a fight.

Protecting Prescott’s blind side might define the season

The real competition that actually matters in camp? It isn’t at defensive coordinator or wide receiver. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the battle between Tyler Guyton and Nate Thomas for the starting left tackle job is the biggest thing to watch. Not the pass rush. Not the receivers. The guy keeping Prescott upright on his blind side.

Breer points out that if new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and line coach Klayton Adams can make that spot a real strength, the entire offensive line becomes an anchor. That’s not small talk. That’s the difference between Prescott having time to push the ball downfield and him running for his life before the second read.

The offensive line has been the backbone of good Dallas teams for years. Losing that feels like losing a foundation. But if Guyton or Thomas steps up, the Cowboys could have something real up front again.

New DC brings a different look to the NFC East

Christian Parker taking over as defensive coordinator matters more than most outside Dallas realize. The NFC East is going to be a scrap again, and the Eagles aren’t going anywhere. The Giants are trying to be relevant. The Commanders have a new vibe. But Dallas with an aggressive defense and a rested Prescott is a different animal.

The defense is younger and more vocal than it’s been in years. That’s by design. The front office wanted a personality shift. They’re getting one.

A wide receiver nobody talks about is earning real trust

Ryan Flournoy came into the league as a sixth-round pick from Southeast Missouri State. That’s not a pedigree that gets you headlines. But after a solid first season, he’s walking into camp with a completely different vibe. The depth chart is crowded. George Pickens is there now alongside CeeDee Lamb. Jake Ferguson and KaVontae Turpin are established pieces. But Flournoy has carved out a role and he knows it.

He said he finally understands the offense completely. He knows how to operate like a real pro. For a late-round guy on a roster with stars at his position, that kind of confidence is either reckless or earned. So far, it looks earned.

Prescott will take all the help he can get. If the left tackle battle goes right and the defense keeps talking, this team might actually look like the one everyone expected two years ago.
