Anthony Rizzo Calls Out Jazz Chisholm Jr. After Costly Ejection in Yankees Loss to Red Sox

The Yankees have bigger problems than a sweep at Fenway Park. Right now, they’ve got a chemistry issue too.

Sunday night’s 5-4 loss to Boston in 10 innings was bad enough. The Red Sox completed a three-game sweep. New York blew a late lead. But the real fallout is coming from something that happened back in the sixth inning.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. got himself tossed. The second baseman argued a check swing third strike call with home plate umpire Adam Hamari. Chisholm wanted Hamari to check with the third base ump. Hamari didn’t want to hear it. He threw Chisholm out of the game instead.

Anthony Rizzo was watching. And he didn’t hold back.

“You just have to be smarter there,” Rizzo said on NBC’s broadcast. “Jazz is such a big part of this offense. They need to get him going. To get ejected just shows a little bit of immaturity there. The team’s scuffling, they need him in the lineup, and now he puts Volpe in a tough position coming in completely cold.”

Rizzo played for the Yankees from 2021 through 2024. He knows how these games against Boston feel. He also knows what it looks like when a key guy can’t keep his cool.

Chisholm didn’t stick around to explain himself. Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported that Chisholm “left before the media was let into the clubhouse.” It’s not a great look for a player the Yankees are counting on to help carry an offense that’s already missing some heavy hitters.

The Yankees are in a weird spot right now. They just got swept by their biggest rival. The lineup isn’t clicking. And now one of their most dynamic players is drawing criticism from a former teammate for a moment of lost composure.

Chisholm has been solid since coming over from Miami last year. But moments like this are what people remember. Especially when the team is losing. Especially when it happens against the Red Sox.

It’ll be worth watching how Chisholm responds over the next few days. The Yankees need him on the field. Not in the clubhouse getting dressed early.
