PSG Lands a Verbal Commitment From Leipzig Star Diomande. Now Comes the Hard Part.

Yan Diomande has decided where he wants to play next. The only problem is his current club hasn’t agreed to let him go yet.

According to multiple reports from Sky Germany and The Athletic, the 19-year-old Bundesliga midfielder has told RB Leipzig he wants out this summer. And he’s already chosen his next destination: Paris Saint-Germain.

French transfer insider Fabrice Hawkins reports that Diomande has agreed to personal terms with PSG on a contract that would run through 2031. That’s a five-year deal for a teenager who just finished his second full season in Germany. The reigning Champions League winners clearly see him as a long-term piece.

But here’s where it gets messy. Diomande is under contract with Leipzig through 2030. He’s not going anywhere for cheap. Transfermarkt currently values him at €90 million, and Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff doesn’t exactly have a reputation for handing out discounts.

Direct talks underway between clubs

Hawkins reports that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Mintzlaff have already opened a direct line of communication. That’s progress. But a formal transfer fee hasn’t been agreed upon yet, and that gap could be significant.

Leipzig doesn’t need to sell. They tied Diomande down to a long extension specifically to protect their bargaining position. They knew this moment was coming. The question is whether PSG is willing to meet their asking price or if they’ll try to chip away at it with add-ons and installment structures.

Diomande broke into Leipzig’s first team as a 17-year-old and has been a regular ever since. His blend of physicality and technical comfort in tight spaces makes him a natural fit for the modern game. PSG sees him as a guy who can anchor their midfield for the next decade.

Player side is done. Club side is not. That’s where this story sits right now.

Mintzlaff and Al-Khelaifi have done business before. That might help. But this one feels like it’s going to drag into July before anything concrete happens. Leipzig holds the paper. Diomande holds the leverage of a pre-arranged contract. Somewhere in between, a number north of €90 million is probably waiting.
