Jalen Green’s Future in Phoenix Might Be Shorter Than Anyone Expected

The Miles Bridges trade wasn’t just about adding a versatile forward to the Suns’ rotation. It might have been a signal about Jalen Green’s expiration date in Phoenix.

ClutchPoints senior NBA reporter Brett Siegel pointed out on X that the deal — which sent Bridges from Charlotte to Phoenix — could be bad news for Green’s long-term standing with the franchise. Siegel noted that the Suns now have access to their draft picks for the next four years, which is a clear sign they’re positioning themselves for something bigger. Maybe now. Maybe later. But the clock might be ticking.

Green came to Phoenix in the 2025 offseason as part of the Kevin Durant trade with Houston. The Rockets got Durant. The Suns got Green and veteran wing Dillon Brooks. The idea was to give Phoenix a younger, more athletic core around Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. But the NBA doesn’t wait for ideas to settle.

Injuries limited Green to 32 games in his first Suns season. When he played, he was solid: 17.8 points a night, 42 percent from the field, 1.1 steals. He shot well enough to keep defenses honest. But availability matters, and Green hasn’t proven he can stay on the floor for a full grind.

His postseason run, though, turned some heads. After the Suns survived the Play-In Tournament — losing to Portland first, then beating Golden State — they drew the defending champion Thunder in the first round. Green averaged 21.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 37.8 minutes per game. That’s the kind of production that makes a front office think twice about moving on.

But thinking twice doesn’t mean stopping. The Bridges trade gives Phoenix a different kind of weapon — a strong two-way forward who can guard multiple positions and create his own shot. Bridges and Brooks are similar in some ways, but Bridges brings more scoring pop. That overlap could make Green expendable, especially if the Suns want to package him with picks for a true star.

The front office hasn’t said anything publicly about Green’s future. The team has not confirmed any plans to trade him. But the roster math is getting tighter. Phoenix has Booker, Beal, Bridges and Brooks all taking significant minutes on the perimeter. Something has to give.

It’s possible Green stays and the Suns try to make it work with a deep rotation. But the league is built on transactions, not patience. And right now, the smart money is on Phoenix making another move before the deadline.
