Carolina Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky dropped some important health updates for two key players on Tuesday, and the news is a mixed bag for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
According to Hurricanes beat reporter Walt Ruff, Tulsky told media that forward Seth Jarvis had shoulder surgery and forward Eric Robinson underwent a knee procedure. The timelines are where things get real.
Jarvis is looking at a 4-6 month recovery. That’s a long stretch. He led the Hurricanes in goals this season with 32, plus he added 66 points in the regular season. Losing that kind of scoring punch for the start of next season is tough. Robinson should be back quicker — roughly 6-8 weeks — so he might be ready by training camp or shortly after.
Carolina just finished a dream playoff run. They swept Ottawa and Philadelphia, dropped only one game in the Eastern Conference Final against Montreal, then survived a 3-2 series win over Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final after falling behind twice. It was a grind, but they got it done.
Now the front office is shifting focus to the offseason. Tulsky said the team is looking at players who could help the club take another step.
“There’s a very real chance that we end up with sort of an open spot in our lineup for a month or two for a young player to step in and get an opportunity to show what he can do,” Tulsky said.
A prospect to watch
One name that keeps coming up is Bradly Nadeau. He’s one of Carolina’s top young forwards and could push for a spot early in the season, especially with Jarvis out.
Tulsky didn’t shy away from that possibility. “He absolutely will be in the conversation if we need a call-up at the start of the year,” he said. “I think it would be a good opportunity for him to get some runway.”

Nadeau put up big numbers in junior hockey and looked sharp in limited pro action. If the Hurricanes need a spark while Jarvis heals, he might get the first look.
The roster is mostly intact from the Cup run, but Tulsky is clearly thinking about depth. Not every team gets a chance to repeat. Carolina has the core — Sebastian Aho, Jaccob Slavin, Andrei Svechnikov — and the coaching staff under Rod Brind’Amour that just proved it can win when it matters most.
Jarvis missing time is a blow, no way around it. But if the recovery timeline holds, he could be back before the playoffs. And if someone like Nadeau steps in and sticks, this team might be even deeper than last year.
Hurricanes fans have reason to be excited. The trophy is in the building. The window is wide open.
