Leicester City has turned down Arsenal’s opening £5 million offer for teenage winger Jeremy Monga, according to reports. The Championship club wants closer to £10 million plus a 15 percent sell-on clause for the 16-year-old, who broke into the first team this season.
Monga made 27 appearances in the Championship during the 2025-26 campaign, chipping in with three goal contributions. He’s the latest product to roll off Leicester’s academy conveyor belt, and it didn’t take long for bigger clubs to start circling.
Manchester City and Chelsea have both been tracking him. But the kid has his heart set on joining Arsenal, per sources close to the situation. That part is significant.
The bigger picture at the Emirates
Arsenal is in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, specifically on the left wing. Their top target remains Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, but Villa has made it clear they aren’t interested in selling. Rogers’ contract runs through 2031, which gives the Midlands club all the leverage.
Mikel Arteta’s side is believed to have a shot at landing Rogers anyway, mainly because the England international reportedly wants the move. But nothing is close yet, and Villa isn’t desperate.
Which brings us back to Monga. He’s not a fix for right now. He’s more of a future piece — a bet on development rather than immediate production. That distinction matters because Arsenal has some real decisions to make in the present.
Uncertainty on the left flank
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard both face uncertain futures at the club. Martinelli hasn’t fully locked down the starting spot the way many expected, and Trossard turns 31 this year. The Gunners won the Premier League title again last season, but they need someone who can step in and play meaningful minutes immediately this fall.
Monga can’t be that guy yet. Physically, he’s still growing into his frame. Mentally, he’s still adjusting to senior football. The talent is clearly there — Leicester’s resistance to sell proves that — but expecting a 16-year-old to contribute to a title defense is unrealistic.
So what happens next? Arsenal could push harder for Rogers, or pivot to another established option. Signing Monga is likely a separate transaction that happens regardless. For Leicester, they’ve got a young asset they don’t need to move. They can afford to wait for a better offer, or keep him and let his value rise.
The clock is ticking though. Arsenal’s summer shopping list is long, and the left wing is near the top.
