Georgia Now Trending for 4-Star DL After He Backs Off Tennessee Pledge

Tennessee’s recruiting roll hit a speed bump Wednesday. Four-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife announced he’s reopening his recruitment, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. The 6-foot-5, 282-pounder had been committed to the Vols since November 2025.

Fife is ranked as the No. 37 defensive lineman nationally in the 2027 class. He’s also a name to watch in the state of Alabama, where Tennessee had pulled him out from under Auburn and Alabama’s noses. Now Georgia looks like the team to beat, per the same recruiting outlets.

For Josh Heupel and his staff, this stings. But it’s not like they haven’t been winning battles elsewhere. The Vols still have 15 verbal commitments in this cycle, and they’ve been aggressive on the flip circuit.

Flips and wins offset the loss

In early June, four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II flipped from Alabama to Tennessee. His Brentwood Academy teammate, four-star wide receiver Kesean Bowman, also flipped — he was an Oregon commit back in September 2025 before switching to the Vols in March 2026. Four-star cornerback Dylan Haley picked Tennessee over Ole Miss, Auburn, and Florida on June 7.

So the 2027 class has some real momentum. But losing Fife is the most notable setback in that group so far. He’s a big body who can play inside or kick out to the edge, and the Vols had locked him up early. Now he’s back on the board and one of the highest-rated uncommitted defensive linemen in the cycle.

Tennessee’s 2026 season ended 8-5, and they missed the College Football Playoff. Heupel is trying to build a roster that can change that. But losing a four-star lineman from a rival’s backyard? That one’s going to leave a mark unless they find a replacement.

Georgia’s staff has been quietly working this one for a while, according to reports. Fife’s decommitment just makes it official that he’s listening. The Vols haven’t commented publicly on the move yet, but you can bet they’re already on the phone with his high school coaches.

Recruiting never really stops. Especially not in the SEC.
