3 Words on His Glove. A 25-Under Score. Jackson Koivun Just Did Something Rare.

Jackson Koivun is 21 years old. He turned pro five weeks ago. And on Sunday he walked off the 18th green at TPC Twin Cities with a PGA Tour trophy in his hands.

It took him three starts to get there.

Koivun won the 3M Open at 25-under 259, three strokes clear of Scottie Scheffler and five ahead of Hideki Matsuyama. Gary Woodland was in the field too. For a guy who just wrapped up his amateur career at Auburn, that’s not supposed to happen this fast. But it did.

The message on his glove

Golf.com posted a photo of Koivun’s glove on X after the win. Written on the side, in what looked like permanent marker, were three words: Confidence, Trust, Dominant.

That’s not a gimmick. That’s a reminder he carried through every swing, every putt, every moment when a rookie might start thinking too much.

Koivun has talked before about the mindset it takes to compete at this level. Back in June, while he was still an amateur preparing for the U.S. Open, he told ESPN something that turned a few heads.

“I just trust that my game is good enough,” he said. “I feel like I can beat anyone. It might sound a little cocky, but at the end of the day, some of those best players in the world have that internal cockiness too and that’s where I’m trying to go.”

That U.S. Open ended with a T-23 finish for Koivun, which is solid for an amateur. He followed it with a missed cut at the John Deere Classic, then bounced back with a T-10 at the ISCO Championship. Then this.

Fast start, bigger finish

The 3M Open didn’t require a slow build for Koivun. He opened with a 64, shot 65 on Friday, and just kept going. By Sunday he wasn’t playing defense. He was extending his lead, playing the kind of golf that makes veteran pros take notice.

Scheffler pushed him. Matsuyama made a run. But Koivun didn’t blink. He made birdies when he needed them and avoided the kind of mistakes that usually separate the experienced winners from the guys who are still figuring it out.

And now he’s a PGA Tour winner at 21. Three starts into his professional career.

That’s not normal. That’s the kind of start that makes people wonder if they’re watching someone who could be around for a long time. Koivun’s glove already has the words. Sunday proved he meant every one of them.
