Clippers Pick No. 5 Is Key to a Three-Team Giannis Blockbuster. Yes, Keaton Wagler Matters.

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade chatter is getting weird in the best way. The Milwaukee Bucks are still shopping the two-time MVP, and early whispers had the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics as the frontrunners. But now a third team is creeping into the picture, and it might be the one that actually makes a deal happen.

The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly expressed real interest in landing Jaylen Brown if the Celtics include him in a package for Giannis. The hangup has always been whether Milwaukee would keep Brown or flip him. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Bucks front office has its eye on the Clippers’ No. 5 pick in this year’s draft, and specifically on a prospect who fits their preferences.

The Keaton Wagler Connection

That prospect is Keaton Wagler, a draft-eligible player whose stock has been climbing for months. Scotto reported that Wagler has fans inside Milwaukee’s front office. But here’s the twist that makes this more than just generic scouting buzz: Wagler is represented by Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports. Bollero won a championship with the Bucks as Senior Director of Scouting. That kind of existing relationship means Milwaukee’s brain trust already knows what kind of player Wagler can become, and knows the agent’s communication style too.

The Clippers hold the fifth overall pick, plus they can offer future first-rounders including an unprotected 2029 pick from the Indiana Pacers (that was part of the Ivica Zubac trade). That’s serious draft capital for a team like Milwaukee that’s about to enter a rebuild or a major retool, depending on what else they can pull off.

Jaylen Brown as a Pawn, Not a Prize

If the Bucks get Brown from Boston and immediately send him to LA, they’d be turning one superstar trade into a three-team haul. Brown is a proven All-Star who can guard multiple positions and create his own shot. But the Bucks might not want to pay him what he’ll command on his next contract, especially if they’re starting over without Giannis. Flipping him for a top-five pick and future assets makes sense on paper, even if it feels cold.

Just a few days ago, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Clippers weren’t expected to get involved in any three-team scenario involving Milwaukee and Boston. But the league moves fast. If LA is willing to offer more now, the dynamic shifts. And the Bucks have to consider whether the Celtics package — even with Brown — is worth more than what the Clippers can cobble together.

Nobody has confirmed any of this yet. The Bucks haven’t committed to a timeline for a Giannis trade, and Boston hasn’t publicly said Brown is available. But the connections are getting harder to ignore. Wagler might not be a household name yet, but if this deal goes through, he could be the reason the NBA’s next superteam forms in LA.
