Paul Goldschmidt is quietly putting together a season that’s starting to look a lot like a Hall of Fame résumé. And on Saturday, he moved one step closer to passing a teammate you wouldn’t expect.
Goldschmidt launched his 384th career home run against the Cincinnati Reds. That ties him with Harold Baines for 70th on MLB’s all-time list. But here’s where it gets interesting: his next target is Dwight Evans at 385. And also Aaron Judge. Judge is sitting at 385 too, which means Goldschmidt is about to creep past the guy who’s been the face of the Yankees franchise.
The YES Network put it simply on X: “Paul Goldschmidt with his 384th career homer which ties him with Harold Baines for 70th all-time. Next up: Dwight Evans and Aaron Judge at 385.”
Goldschmidt has been on a tear lately. The Yankees needed someone to step up with Judge out injured, and the veteran first baseman has done exactly that. He’s hitting, he’s driving in runs, and he’s playing defense at a level that’s quietly elite.
Sports Illustrated called this a renaissance season for Goldschmidt. They pointed out that his defensive metrics are stellar. According to Baseball Savant, he owns a plus-2 outs above average. The only first basemen ahead of him are Pete Alonso and Nolan Schanuel, both at plus-3.
Goldschmidt joined the Yankees before the 2025 season after long stints with the St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks. His career batting average sits at .288 with more than 1,200 RBIs. Those are numbers that get you talked about in Cooperstown.
Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón didn’t hold back when talking about Goldschmidt. Per MLB.com, Rodón said: “He’s a Hall of Fame player. It’s pretty obvious. He’s been really good at this game for a long time. He’s aging pretty well. I just hope he keeps swinging.”
The Yankees are rolling right now. They came into Saturday’s game with eight wins in their last 10. They’re sitting in first place in the American League East with a 46-28 record. Goldschmidt is a big reason why.
If he keeps swinging like this, he won’t just pass Judge on that list. He’ll keep climbing.
