World Cup Day 8 is here and the USMNT is staring down a game that could define their entire tournament. Kickoff against Australia in Seattle is hours away and the biggest question still hanging in the air is whether Christian Pulisic will start.
The captain has been dealing with a knock that kept him limited in training. The team hasn’t confirmed anything yet but you can bet everyone from the coaching staff to the fans in the stands is watching warmups closely. Pulisic is the guy who makes things happen for this squad. Without him at full strength the attack looks noticeably less dangerous.
Both teams need a win here. That’s not hyperbole. A victory punches a ticket to the round of 32 and puts the loser in serious trouble. The US has the home crowd advantage in Seattle but Australia has looked organized and physical. This isn’t a gimme.
Group C takes center stage next
After the US-Australia game the spotlight shifts to Group C where Scotland is trying to go 2-0. They face Morocco and another win would lock up knockout stage advancement. Scotland came into this tournament with quiet confidence and they’ve backed it up so far. Morocco has talent but they’ll need to find another gear to slow down a Scottish side that moves the ball quickly and presses hard.
Brazil vs Haiti follows and honestly it’s hard to see this one being competitive for long. Brazil is Brazil. Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is deep, experienced and playing with something to prove after their last World Cup exit. Haiti will fight but the gap in quality is real. The question isn’t whether Brazil wins but how many they put in the net and whether they cruise or stay sharp for 90 minutes.
Late night drama in the making
The nightcap is Türkiye vs Paraguay and this one has desperation written all over it. Both teams lost their opening matches. Both teams know another loss basically ends their tournament. So expect a tense, maybe ugly, maybe brilliant game where nobody wants to make the first mistake. Paraguay has been scrappy in buildup play. Türkiye has skill in the midfield but they’ve looked shaky at the back. Something has to give.
It’s a packed day of soccer with real stakes in every match. No meaningless games at this stage. The USMNT kicks things off and if Pulisic is fit enough to go the crowd in Seattle could be the difference. If he’s not, we’ll see how deep this roster really is.
