Jordan Clarkson Spotted a Sign at the Knicks Parade That Made Him Do a Double Take

Jordan Clarkson wasn’t expecting to see his own name held up on a poster board during the New York Knicks’ championship parade. But there it was: a fan’s sign that read “First Ever Filipino NBA Champion” with a crown and a flag next to it. The veteran guard’s reaction was immediate and genuine. His jaw dropped. A camera caught the moment, and it spread fast online.

The moment is a big deal for a lot of reasons. Clarkson, who just turned 34, has been a solid contributor for the Knicks all season. But his ties to the Philippines run deeper than most people realize. He holds Filipino citizenship and has been trying to represent the country on the international stage for over a decade. Back in 2011, FIBA denied his eligibility because he didn’t meet certain requirements at the time. That changed in 2018 when the NBA cleared him to play, and he suited up for the Philippines in the Asian Games and later in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. He was a go-to scorer there, putting up 26 points a night.

So when that sign appeared during the parade float, it hit him differently. It wasn’t just about the Knicks winning. It was about a long personal journey clicking into place. The Knicks just finished off the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals, and the city showed up in full force Thursday to celebrate. There were other funny moments too. The NYPD accidentally thought rookie Tyler Kolek was just some random fan. But the sign for Clarkson might have been the most genuine moment of the day.

On the court this season, Clarkson averaged 8.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 45% from the field. Not his flashiest numbers, but he played a steady role off the bench for a championship team. That’s all he needed. After 12 years in the league, he finally got a ring.

Now the question is whether he stays in New York. Clarkson is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Knicks haven’t made any announcements about a new deal yet. If they don’t bring him back before the window opens, he’ll hit the open market with a championship resume and a ton of goodwill from the fanbase. For now though, he’s just the guy holding that sign in the back of his mind. First Filipino NBA champion. That’s a fact that can’t be taken away.
