Mariska Hargitay’s Son Showed Up to the Knicks Parade in a ‘Marknickska’ Shirt and It’s Perfect

Thursday’s Knicks championship parade was already a party 53 years in the making. Then Mariska Hargitay’s son showed up in a shirt that turned the whole thing into a celebrity meme moment.

The actress, best known as Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU, brought her son to the parade after New York wrapped up the Finals in five games against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. And he wasn’t about to blend in. His shirt read “Marknickska” — a mashup of Mariska’s name and, obviously, the Knicks. Page Six got a photo and posted it on X with the caption: “Mariska Hargitay’s son reps his mom at the Knicks parade with a ‘Marknickska’ shirt.” It was an immediate hit with the crowd.

The Taylor Swift connection

If that naming trick sounds familiar, it’s because Taylor Swift helped kick off the trend during the Finals. She sat courtside for New York’s massive Game 4 comeback against the Spurs wearing a “Stevie Knicks” shirt — a play on Stevie Nicks. The Haim sisters took it even further. Alana Haim rocked a “Knickelback” shirt. Este Haim went with “Knicole Kidman.” Danielle Haim wore “Knickolas Cage.” It became a whole thing. Fans started showing up to games with their own versions. By the time the parade rolled around, the shirts were basically part of the championship merch lineup.

One more layer to the celebration

It wasn’t just about the shirts, obviously. The parade was huge. Thousands packed the streets of Manhattan to see the Knicks finally hoist a title after more than five decades. The last one was 1973. That’s a long time. The team knocked off a Spurs squad led by Wembanyama, who looked every bit the future of the league but couldn’t drag San Antonio past a deeper, more experienced New York team. Jalen Brunson was the Finals MVP, and the vibe around the whole run was that the Knicks did it their way — gritty, loud, and unafraid of the spotlight.

Hargitay’s son added a little Hollywood flavor to the celebration. Not that it needed any. But the “Marknickska” shirt is probably going to end up on a lot of fan Instagram pages this week. It’s got that goofy, sincere energy that sports fans love. And honestly, after 53 years, you can wear whatever you want.
