Man United Gave a 16-Year-Old City Prospect a Tour of Carrington and It’s Getting Serious

Manchester United is going after a kid from across town. Not just any kid either. David Eze, the 16-year-old Manchester City midfielder who already captains England’s U16s, has reportedly been given a tour of Carrington as part of a full-court press by the Red Devils. And the whole thing feels a lot like the Jude Bellingham chase a few years ago — only this time the target is still a minor and the stakes might be even higher because of who currently has him.

Since INEOS took over at Old Trafford in 2024, the club has shifted hard toward hoarding young talent. It’s not exactly a secret. They’ve signed Ayden Heaven from Arsenal for a tiny fee and watched his value explode. They’ve grabbed Chido Obi from the same pipeline. They’ve pulled in kids from Mali, Paraguay, Ecuador, Australia, and France. None of those cost major money, but if even one out of every three or four hits, the math works. Heaven already looks like a steal at 19 years old.

Why Eze is different

David Eze isn’t just another academy prospect. According to people who follow English youth football closely, he’s one of the best midfield prospects in the country. He can carry the ball like Pogba — that’s the comparison being thrown around — but he’s also solid defensively and has captained his country. That’s a rare combo for a 16-year-old. Leadership, physicality, technical skill, the whole package.

City obviously wants to keep him. But here’s the thing: he can’t sign a pro deal until he turns 17 next year. That gives United an opening. They’ve already talked to his camp. An inside source told The Peoples Person that Eze and his family toured Carrington recently, part of a courtship that’s being described as unusually aggressive for a player this young.

The rivalry factor

It’s rare for a prospect to jump straight from the City academy to United’s. That’s not lost on anyone. But United has already proven they’re willing to raid rivals for young talent — they did it with Heaven and Obi from Arsenal, and they’re currently working on a pair of Liverpool attackers. Going after City’s homegrown midfield jewel would be the boldest move yet.

The Bellingham example is worth remembering. United hosted a 16-year-old Jude Bellingham and his family at Carrington too. They showed him around, made their pitch, and he chose Dortmund instead. That one stung. Eze is a different player in a different situation, but the parallel is obvious. United is rolling out the red carpet again and hoping this time the kid says yes.

A bunch of other clubs are reportedly in the race. But if United can actually pull this off, they’d be landing one of England’s best young midfielders while simultaneously taking a piece from their biggest rivals. That’s the kind of move that changes the tone of a rebuild.
