Manchester United is circling West Ham for a two-player package that could hit $178 million, with former Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville as the headliner. The Daily Mail reports United is considering a double move for Summerville and midfielder Mateus Fernandes, but the Hammers aren’t planning to make it easy.
Summerville left Leeds back in 2024 when his $35 million release clause kicked in. That season in the Championship he put up 21 goals and 10 assists, winning a handful of individual awards. His first year in east London was rough. Then early in 2026 something clicked and he scored six goals in seven games across all competitions, keeping West Ham’s survival hopes alive all the way to the final day of the season.
West Ham beat Leeds 3-0 that last weekend. But Tottenham’s win over Everton sent them down anyway.
Why Summerville’s price tag keeps moving
The Athletic has Summerville valued at around $63 million, based on last season’s five goals and two assists in the Premier League. But his World Cup form is starting to factor in. He opened the tournament with a curling finish in a 2-2 draw against Japan, and if he keeps playing like that for the Netherlands, that price only goes up.
West Ham is reportedly asking for up to $178 million for the pair. United would try to talk that down. The timing works in their favor a little bit — Marcus Rashford is expected to leave this summer, which opens up both a spot on the wing and some serious wage space.
Fernandes is the midfield piece United needs. Summerville is the winger who gives them something different out wide. It’s a lot of money for two guys who just got relegated, but Summerville’s second half of the season showed he can produce in the Premier League. The question is whether United wants to pay a premium based on a few good World Cup games.
West Ham just lost its top flight status. That usually means the leverage is on the buyer’s side. But with Summerville turning heads on the biggest stage, they might hold out for closer to that asking price. United has been down this road before with relegated players. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t.
