Mikal Bridges just won an NBA title with the Knicks, ended a 53-year drought for the franchise, and instead of sleeping in or nursing a hangover, he clocked in for a shift at the NBA Store. As a cashier.
The 29-year-old forward showed up a day before New York’s championship parade and started ringing up fans like it was his part-time job. The store was a zoo. People were losing their minds. Bridges just handled it, scanning jerseys and hats and whatever else people threw at him, all while keeping that same easy smile he brings to the court.
“It was a great time up there,” Bridges said. “Just closing out, getting guys’ and people’s orders right. The staff up there did a great job. They taught me. I was just trying to be a quick learner and lock in for all the fans.”
The internet had thoughts. Obviously.
Fans on X went viral reacting to the clip. One person called him a real iron man who can’t sit still. Another joked they’d forget their PIN if Mikal Bridges rang them up. Somebody else pointed out the wild contrast: he’d scan your stuff, then drop 40 points on your favorite team after clocking out.
“Mikal Bridges is for the people,” one fan posted. Another called it amazing marketing, saying the Knicks should keep these guys close to the fans. Hard to argue with that.
This wasn’t just a random PR stunt either. Bridges has been on a victory lap since the Finals ended. He got drunk before lunch and flexed on Instagram Live. He went on Jimmy Fallon. He watched a World Cup game at MetLife Stadium. Working retail just kinda fits the vibe.
The former Villanova star has been embraced by New York ever since the Knicks traded for him last season. He plays all 82 games, never misses a minute, and apparently never misses a shift either. The NBA Store might want to hire him permanently. Guy doesn’t know how to take a day off.
