Juventus Needs to Sell. Manchester United Has a Shortlist. Thuram Is on It.

Manchester United is circling Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram this summer, according to reports from Corriere dello Sport. The French international is valued somewhere between £35 million and £39 million, and Juve is under some serious pressure to move him.

Why the urgency? Juventus finished sixth in Serie A last season. No Champions League football. That means less revenue and a books problem. The club needs to generate a capital gain of roughly £10-11 million by the end of June. Selling Thuram is one of the cleaner ways to get there.

Al-Ahli from the Saudi Pro League is willing to meet Juventus’ asking price. But Thuram isn’t ready to head to Saudi Arabia just yet. He prefers a move to the Premier League. And United is among the teams he’d like to join.

Midfield overhaul is coming at Old Trafford

United spent last summer loading up on attackers. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko — all forwards. This summer, the focus has shifted. The midfield is the problem now.

Casemiro is leaving at the end of this month as a free agent. That’s one spot open. Manuel Ugarte could be sold too. His time in Manchester has been underwhelming, to put it politely. United already agreed to bring Ederson in from Atalanta, so they’re not starting from zero. But they need more bodies.

There’s also interest in Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. That deal is too expensive right now. Forest wants a number that United isn’t willing to pay.

Mateus Fernandes might be the priority

For all the Thuram chatter, the name that keeps coming up is Mateus Fernandes at West Ham. United likes him. West Ham wants around £85 million. That’s a lot. Michael Carrick’s side is hoping to negotiate that number down, but the Hammers are holding firm for now.

Thuram might be the more realistic option depending on how the Fernandes talks go. Juve needs to sell. Thuram wants to come. The price is less than half of what West Ham is asking. That math is hard to ignore.

United hasn’t confirmed anything yet. But the pieces are moving. Expect some clarity in the next couple weeks.
