Florentino Perez Has a $218 Million Problem — and Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise Is at the Center of It

Florentino Perez doesn’t lose many battles. But the Real Madrid president might be staring down his toughest transfer fight yet — one that involves a $218 million price tag and a German club that refuses to even pick up the phone.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Perez has set his sights on Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise as the marquee signing he promised during his re-election campaign. The only problem? Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness has made it clear that bids in the neighborhood of €200 million — roughly $218 million — would be rejected outright.

Olise, 24, is coming off a monster season in Munich: 22 goals and 31 assists in 57 appearances across all competitions. He’s followed that up with a strong showing at the World Cup for France, tallying two assists in his tournament debut. For a player who was still at Crystal Palace two years ago, the trajectory has been dizzying.

And that’s exactly why Perez is refusing to back down.

The Galactico Promise

During his presidential campaign, Perez pledged to deliver a blockbuster attacking addition to the Santiago Bernabeu. Initially, Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez looked like the prime target. But Atlético quickly slammed the door on any potential deal, and sources close to Real Madrid have reportedly long considered Olise the club’s real priority — a long-term investment in star power and production.

Perez has made preliminary contact with both Bayern Munich and representatives close to Olise, according to the report. The goal: test whether any crack in Bayern’s resolve might appear later in the transfer window.

The club recognizes that pulling this off would be extraordinarily difficult. Olise is central to Vincent Kompany’s system in Munich, and the German champions have no financial need to sell. But Real Madrid has never been a club that lets logic get in the way of ambition.

Why Olise Fits the Bernabeu Mold

There’s a reason Perez sees Olise as a dream signing. The French international has the kind of explosive, game-breaking ability that fits the Galactico tradition — think Cristiano Ronaldo, not just a system player. His numbers this season put him in elite company across Europe’s top five leagues in terms of goal contributions per 90 minutes.

At 24, he’s entering his prime. And with Real Madrid’s attack needing a long-term partner for Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo, Olise checks every box. The question isn’t talent — it’s whether any amount of money can pry him away from the Allianz Arena.

For now, Bayern’s stance is uncompromising. But in the world of elite transfers, no means no — until it doesn’t. And Perez has never been afraid to keep knocking.
