Jordan Kyrou to the Islanders? A No-Trade Clause Waiver Could Make It Happen

Jordan Kyrou might be on the move, and the New York Islanders are making a serious push to land the St. Louis Blues star forward. According to multiple reports, trade talks between the two teams have heated up this offseason, with Kyrou reportedly open to waiving his full no-trade clause to join the Islanders.

The 27-year-old winger has posted three 30-goal seasons in the NHL, using his elite speed and finishing ability to become one of the Blues’ most dangerous offensive threats. But with St. Louis in a retooling phase, Kyrou’s name has surfaced in trade rumors for months. The Islanders, desperate for a high-impact scorer after missing the playoffs, appear to be at the front of the line.

Why Kyrou Fits on Long Island

New York has struggled to generate consistent offense for years. Mat Barzal has been the team’s primary playmaker, but even he has been mentioned in trade rumors recently. Adding Kyrou would give the Islanders a legitimate goal-scoring winger who can create his own chances and complement Barzal’s vision. The fit is obvious — and according to The Hockey News’ Stefen Rosner, the Islanders have re-engaged in trade discussions.

“The three-time 30-goal scorer appears to be a player who could benefit from a change of scenery,” Rosner wrote. “I’m told the Islanders are one of the teams that have re-engaged in trade talks, with conversations ongoing for some time now.”

Kyrou’s Contract and Trade Protection

Kyrou is signed through 2030-31 with a cap hit that could be a sticking point — but the Islanders have the space and the need. The full no-trade clause in his deal was thought to be a major obstacle, but Rosner reports that Kyrou would waive it to join New York. That’s a significant shift from earlier in the season, when there was little indication he wanted out at all.

“It’s also believed that Kyrou would waive his no-trade clause to join the Islanders, which is notable considering there was little indication he had any interest in moving during the season,” Rosner added.

Other Teams in the Mix

The Islanders aren’t alone in their pursuit. Rosner also mentioned that the Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, and Seattle Kraken have had recent conversations with St. Louis. Any of those teams could offer a different package — but Kyrou’s willingness to go to New York gives the Islanders leverage.

For the Blues, dealing Kyrou would mark a turning point. He was drafted 35th overall in 2016 and has been a core piece, but the organization appears ready to restock its asset pool. Moving a top-six forward under long-term control would allow St. Louis to accelerate its rebuild and target younger talent or draft picks.

The situation remains fluid, but one thing is clear: If Kyrou ends up on Long Island, it could reshape the Eastern Conference playoff picture for years to come.
