Knicks’ GMA Appearance Looks More Like a Recovery Session After Title Win

The New York Knicks have waited 53 years to throw a championship party. Judging by their Monday morning appearance on Good Morning America, they’re still cleaning up the confetti — and possibly their bloodstreams.

Three days after clinching the franchise’s first NBA title since 1973, the starting five walked into the ABC studio looking like they’d just stumbled out of the afterparty. Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart kept their sunglasses on for the entire segment. Between the laughter, the giggles, and the general vibe of guys running on fumes and champagne, it was hard to tell whether this was a victory lap or a mercy wake-up call.

Fans on social media were quick to pile on. BlueSky user Seth Rosenthal tagged the group “The Five Headaches” — a perfect description for a quintet that looked ready to hit snooze rather than rehearse highlights.

From Historic Collapse Avoidance to Morning TV

The Knicks dropped the San Antonio Spurs in five games, but not without drama. Game 4 nearly turned into a disaster before Jalen Brunson sparked a 29-point comeback, scoring 36 points to avoid what would have been a series-turning loss. Then came Game 5, where Brunson dropped 45 of the team’s 94 points on better than 50% shooting and hit 13 of 15 from the free-throw line.

He earned Finals MVP for his efforts — averaging 32.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists for the series — and turned what could have been a tense closeout into a coronation.

New York stormed through the postseason, winning 16 of 19 games and rolling off a 13-game winning streak that only ended in Game 3 of the Finals. They swept the 76ers and Cavaliers in the earlier rounds, and even the Spurs’ lone victory couldn’t stop the momentum.

What Comes Next Is More Than a Parade

The official parade is set for Thursday, June 18, and tickets for a potential repeat won’t be punched until fall. But for one morning, the Knicks traded trophy speeches for sunglasses and inside jokes. It’s the kind of hangover every franchise dreams of — just maybe not during a live national broadcast.
