Amazon Paid Manchester United a Record Fee for ‘All or Nothing’ — Here’s What Held It Up

For years, Manchester United fans have begged for a true behind-the-scenes look at their club. Now they’re getting one — but only after a change in the manager’s office cleared the way.

Amazon Prime Video has signed a deal with United to produce an All or Nothing documentary series, the club confirmed Monday. The project had reportedly been stalled under former manager Ruben Amorim, who opposed the idea of cameras following his squad through a turbulent season. According to The Athletic, Amorim believed the documentary would be a disruptive influence on the locker room.

That changed after Michael Carrick took over as interim manager, turned the team’s fortunes around, and earned the permanent job. Carrick, described by insiders as a more level-headed presence, gave the green light — and Amazon opened its checkbook.

Record Payout from Prime Video

Per the Daily Mail’s Nathan Salt, the Red Devils negotiated a fee that exceeds what Amazon has paid any other club for an All or Nothing series. The Athletic reports the deal is worth over £10 million — a record for the platform’s sports documentary slate.

Previous editions of the series followed Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Manchester City. United’s version will begin filming this summer and is expected to premiere in the summer of 2027 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Prime members will get access at no additional cost.

What the Cameras Will Capture

The series promises “unprecedented access” to the club, including dressing room dynamics and the inner workings of Carrington, United’s training ground. With Champions League football back at Old Trafford after a two-year absence, the timing gives producers a dramatic narrative arc to work with.

“Manchester United is more than a football club: it is a global phenomenon,” said Tara Erer, Amazon’s Head of UK Film and Unscripted Television and Northern European Originals. “From Old Trafford to every corner of the world, there is no club that commands this level of passion, history and obsession.”

United’s Chief Communications Officer, Toby Craig, described the project as a way to open the club’s doors at the right moment. “This documentary will showcase Manchester United’s unique people, ambition and culture,” he said.

Fan Reaction: Excitement and Skepticism

The announcement sent supporters into a frenzy on social media, but not everyone is sold. Some fans pointed out that the club is being paid handsomely to grant access — and that past All or Nothing series have been criticized for sanitizing their subjects. The team has not confirmed how much editorial control United will retain, though Amazon has historically worked closely with clubs on final cuts.

Still, for a fanbase that has spent years craving a raw, honest look at their club, the series represents a rare opportunity. Whether it delivers that honesty — or becomes another polished piece of brand management — will depend on how much Carrick and his players let the cameras see.
