Timothée Chalamet Shouted ‘Way Rather This Than the Oscars’ After the Knicks Finally Won a Title

For 53 years, New York Knicks fans have waited for a championship. For Timothée Chalamet, that wait ended Saturday night — and the Oscar-nominated actor let the world know exactly where his priorities stand.

Courtside at Frost Bank Center for Game 5, Chalamet watched his Knicks claw back from a 16-point deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 and clinch the series 4-1. As confetti rained down and the team mobbed each other, a reporter asked the lifelong superfan what this moment meant compared to Hollywood glory.

“Way rather this than the Oscars!” Chalamet yelled, grinning through the chaos. The clip quickly went viral, with SportsCenter posting the moment on X, captioning it: “Timothée Chalamet hyped for the Knicks title.”

Brunson Delivers a Finals Masterpiece

While Chalamet grabbed headlines off the court, the story on it belonged to Jalen Brunson. The newly minted Finals MVP erupted for 45 points on 14-of-27 shooting, single-handedly dragging the Knicks back from the brink. His go-ahead floater with 65 seconds left silenced the San Antonio crowd and sealed the comeback.

No other Knick scored more than 12 points. The rest of the roster combined to shoot 17-for-60 from the field. But New York’s defense clamped down in the fourth quarter, holding the Spurs to just 18 points in the final frame.

Wembanyama’s Effort Not Enough

Victor Wembanyama did everything he could for San Antonio, finishing with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks. But the Spurs couldn’t buy a bucket down the stretch, and the Knicks — powered by Brunson and a raucous traveling fan section that included Spike Lee — finally broke through.

For Chalamet and generations of Knicks fans, the half-century drought is over. Hollywood can keep its golden statues. The only hardware that matters to this superfan is the one heading home to Madison Square Garden.
