Caitlin Clark Just Joined Diana Taurasi in Rare WNBA Company — Here’s How She Did It

If you blinked during Saturday night’s Fever-Mercury game, you might have missed history being made. But the numbers don’t lie, and Caitlin Clark just put herself in a category that only one player in WNBA history has ever owned.

Clark dropped 25 points, dished five assists, and knocked down five three-pointers in Indiana’s road win over Phoenix. That stat line alone is impressive. But here’s what makes it significant: it was the 10th time in her career she’s hit at least five threes in a single game. That puts her second all-time in WNBA history, trailing only Diana Taurasi, who has done it 25 times.

What That Five-Three Benchmark Actually Means

Hitting five or more triples in a game isn’t easy. It requires volume, efficiency, and the green light to keep firing. Clark has that green light for the Fever, and she’s making the most of it. According to ESPN Insights, the former Iowa standout’s 10 such games place her in a league of her own behind only the legendary Taurasi.

“Have a day CC! Caitlin Clark scores 25, drops 5 dimes and hit 5 3s for the 10th time in her career, the 2nd most such games in WNBA history. She trails only Diana Taurasi, who did it 25 times! 👏” ESPN Insights posted on social media.

Social media took notice quickly. Fans and analysts alike pointed out that Clark is only in her third season. Injuries slowed her last year, but she’s been healthier and far more productive this campaign. If she maintains this pace, that gap to Taurasi’s record suddenly looks a lot smaller.

How the Fever Beat the Mercury

Clark wasn’t the only one who showed up. Indiana got contributions up and down the roster in the 92-84 victory.

Kelsey Mitchell finished with 19 points, five assists, and two rebounds. Aliyah Boston posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Sophie Cunningham chipped in 11 points and two rebounds, while Monique Billings added 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Clark shot 10-of-17 from the field and 5-of-10 from deep in 36 minutes. She also grabbed three rebounds and blocked a shot. It was the kind of all-around performance that has fans wondering how high her ceiling really is.

Where Indiana Stands Now

The win pushed Indiana to 8-5 on the season, good for third place in the Eastern Conference. The Fever are sitting above the Toronto Tempo and Washington Mystics, but still trailing the Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty. They’re also riding a three-game winning streak.

Next up: a home game against the Tempo on June 16 at 7 p.m. ET. If Clark keeps shooting like this, that streak might not stop anytime soon.

The question is no longer whether Clark can be a star in this league. The question is how quickly she can start rewriting the record book.
