Bengals Target Two Veteran RBs in Trade — Is This Burrow’s Missing Piece?

The Cincinnati Bengals are sending a message to the rest of the AFC: they are all in. With Joe Burrow back to full health and a revamped defense making noise this offseason, the franchise is reportedly not done reshaping its roster. According to sources close to the situation, the Bengals are now aggressively exploring trade options to bolster their running back room — and two star names have emerged as prime targets.

Report: Conner and Kamara on Cincinnati’s Radar

ESPN insider Dan Graziano has dropped a bombshell that has the football world buzzing. According to his report, the Bengals are among the teams to watch as potential landing spots for Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner or New Orleans Saints legend Alvin Kamara. Neither player is guaranteed a featured role with their current squads, and insiders say Cincinnati is lurking.

“But it feels like one of the Cardinals’ six RBs has to go, and a team looking for a reliable veteran back could make a move for Conner if he’s having a hard time getting carries,” Graziano wrote. “The Bengals and Giants jump to mind; they were looking for running back help this offseason but didn’t bring in much.”

The Cardinals’ decision to draft Jeremiyah Love at No. 3 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, plus the free-agent signing of Tyler Allgeier, has reportedly created a logjam in Arizona. Conner, despite being a two-time Pro Bowler and taking a pay cut, could find himself on the outside looking in. One team source told us the Cardinals are “listening to offers” for the veteran back.

Kamara’s Legacy in New Orleans? Door May Be Closing

Meanwhile, down in New Orleans, the Saints shocked the league by handing Travis Etienne a $52 million contract in free agency. That move, insiders say, signals a changing of the guard. Kamara showed up for OTAs and remains a franchise icon with five Pro Bowl nods, but the writing appears to be on the locker room wall.

“It’s hard to see a team offering too much for Kamara at this point in his career,” Graziano continued. “But if he lands in the right kind of backfield and the right kind of role, he could have a chance to go out with a bang. Maybe a place such as Cincinnati or Green Bay has a way to use him to help the offense.”

One NFL executive, speaking on condition of anonymity, told us: “Kamara still has juice in the tank, especially in a complementary role. Cincinnati would be a nightmare for defenses if they add a veteran who can catch and run.”

What This Means for Burrow and the Bengals’ Offense

Make no mistake: Chase Brown remains the Bengals’ lead back, and he is expected to handle the bulk of the touchdown carries. But team insiders admit they need more thump and experience in the backfield, especially for a playoff push. Adding a player of Conner or Kamara’s caliber wouldn’t just be an upgrade — it could be the move that turns Cincinnati from contender to favorite.

The Bengals reportedly kicked the tires on free-agent running backs earlier this offseason but came away empty-handed. Now, with trade winds swirling, the pressure is mounting on the front office to make a splash before training camp. As one unnamed scout put it: “If Burrow gets a dual-threat back who can also pass protect, watch out.”

Whether either deal materializes remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the Bengals are hunting, and the rest of the league is on notice.
