NFL Closes Investigation on Stefon Diggs — Here’s What It Means for His Free Agency

The offseason of veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been clouded by legal drama. But now, the NFL has officially turned the page.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league wrapped up its review of the allegations against Diggs and found no basis for a punishment under its personal conduct policy. “The NFL closed out its review of the matter involving Stefon Diggs and his former chef,” Schefter reported. “It said there was insufficient evidence to support a finding of a personal conduct policy violation.”

The Background

Diggs was originally charged with felony strangulation after his former chef made a series of allegations. The case went to court, and the receiver was found not guilty. The league’s decision to follow suit means no suspension is coming — and no further discipline hanging over his head.

That’s a critical development for any franchise considering signing him this offseason. Teams no longer have to weigh the risk of a league-mandated absence into their evaluation. Diggs will still field questions in interviews, but for the most part, his fate now rests on his production between the lines.

What Diggs Brings to the Table

In the 2025 season, Diggs was the go-to target for quarterback Drake Maye during the New England Patriots’ run to the AFC title. He finished with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns — numbers that prove he still has plenty left in the tank as a true No. 1 option.

The four-time Pro Bowler now enters a free-agent market that values experienced playmakers who can step in and produce immediately. His availability becomes a much more realistic proposition for teams in need of receiving help — and the price tag remains the only major question.

Diggs hasn’t publicly outlined what kind of contract he’s seeking, but with this off-field chapter fully closed, his focus is back where it counts: the gridiron.
