Stephen Curry went on Good Morning America and basically turned it into a recruiting commercial for the Golden State Warriors. LeBron James is still out there weighing his options, and Curry isn’t shy about selling The Bay.
“The Bay, we know how to win, beautiful weather, great golf… we just know how to play basketball, and I think that he would enjoy just the idea of what it means to finish your career the right way,” Curry said. “He knows what he wants, and he’ll eventually make that decision. It’s solely up to him. We’re having fun with it knowing he’s got his pick of the entire league.”
The golf line wasn’t random, by the way. Curry and Draymond Green have both made a point of talking up the links when discussing LeBron. Green already put his pitch in while they were golfing together. Curry mentioned the same thing about a week ago when a reporter asked him about the possibility of teaming up with James.
“I’d say more so I’m interested to just play golf with LeBron,” Curry said at the time. “We’ll handle the basketball stuff, but I want to see the golf LeBron free agent… we obviously would love to play together. I mean, hopefully it happens. But he’s deserved the opportunity and the right to take his time with the decision.”
The Warriors Are One of Several Teams in the Race
Golden State isn’t the only team trying to land James. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves are all reportedly in the mix. But the Warriors have one thing a lot of those other teams don’t: familiarity. Curry, Green and James all played together on the 2024 Olympic team that won gold in Paris. And who coached that team? Steve Kerr, the same guy running the Warriors sideline.
So there’s a built-in comfort level. They’ve already seen how it works with James operating next to Curry in a system run by Kerr. It’s not exactly a leap to imagine that translating to an NBA season.
Any basketball fan would love to see Curry and James share the court for 82 games plus a playoff run. They’ve been rivals for more than a decade, going toe-to-toe in four NBA Finals between 2015 and 2018. They’ve never been teammates in the league, only briefly together on the Olympic team. That taste might be enough to make both guys wonder what a full season could look like.
The Warriors clearly believe they’ve got a real shot. They’ve got Curry as the main selling point, Green as the hype man, and a culture that’s won four championships in the last decade. But it’s still LeBron’s call, and he’s reportedly taking his time. No rush. No pressure. Just golf, sunshine and the chance to chase one more ring on the other side of the rivalry.
