Baker Mayfield has always been a trash talker. That’s not news. But the line he used on Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell during a Week 4 game last season? That one had some history behind it.
The exchange happened during the Buccaneers-Eagles matchup in 2025, and it was captured on camera for Netflix’s Quarterbacks series. Mayfield, one of the subjects of the show, walked up to Mitchell and asked a question that clearly got under the young corner’s skin.
“Who the f*** are you, anyway?” Mayfield said.
Mitchell shot back: “You know who I am.”
“No,” Mayfield said. “I don’t.”
That was enough. Mitchell threw his hands up and started swinging. Buccaneers linemen jumped in to separate the two. It was exactly what Mayfield wanted. He later admitted he stole the move from Arian Foster, the former Texans running back who used to pull similar mind games.
“I stole that one directly from Arian Foster back in the day,” Mayfield said on the show.
Here’s the thing though. Mitchell is good. Really good. He might not have the interception numbers of a Patrick Surtain II or a Derek Stingley Jr., but quarterbacks just don’t complete balls when they throw his way. By the third quarter of that game, Mayfield basically stopped looking in his direction. Too risky.
The Eagles won that game 31-25 and moved to 4-0. Mitchell finished with five passes defensed and five tackles. So if Mayfield didn’t know who he was before the game, he sure as hell knew after.
Mitchell isn’t a household name yet outside of hardcore NFL fans, but that’s changing. He came into the league as a rookie in 2024 and immediately became one of the most reliable corners in Philadelphia’s secondary. Guys like that don’t stay anonymous for long.
What makes the whole thing funny is how it played out. Mayfield tried to get in his head. It worked for maybe one second. Then Mitchell went back to doing what he does best. Locking down receivers. Making quarterbacks regret throwing his way.
Netflix released the footage in July 2026 as part of the third season of Quarterbacks. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth a watch. Just for the look on Mitchell’s face when he realized Mayfield was messing with him. And for the look on Mayfield’s face when he realized the guy he didn’t know just helped beat him.
