Manchester United’s Summer Shopping List Just Got a Left-Wing Option They Can’t Ignore

Manchester United has been busy. Like, really busy. They’ve already locked down deals for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans in midfield, and the checkbook isn’t closed yet. According to The Athletic, there’s still room for one more body in the middle of the park. Names like Alex Scott, Felix Nmecha, Carlos Baleba, and Sander Berge have all floated around as possibilities.

But here’s the twist. United might not be done with the attack either. Specifically, the left side of it.

That’s where Crysencio Summerville comes in. The West Ham winger, according to the same report, has emerged as a leading target for the Red Devils. Exploratory talks have already happened between the two clubs. The 24-year-old Dutchman put up five goals and four assists in 31 Premier League appearances last season, which is solid but not exactly jaw-dropping. Context helps though. West Ham was a mess for chunks of last year, and Summerville was one of the few bright spots. His teammate Jean-Clair Todibo called him “incredible,” which counts for something.

Summerville wants United. Bad.

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Summerville has made it clear to his representatives: he only wants to join United. Not just a preference. A demand. Despite interest from other clubs, the Dutch international sees Old Trafford as the ultimate destination. His thinking, according to those close to the situation, is that United is where he can compete for the Champions League and the Premier League. Fair enough.

He also had a strong World Cup campaign, getting involved in four goals in North America. That’s the kind of form that makes scouts take a second look.

One big complication: Marcus Rashford

The Athletic notes that any move for a left-sided attacker might depend on what happens with Marcus Rashford. He’s expected to be available for preseason, but an exit before the window closes isn’t off the table. If Rashford stays, Summerville might wait. If Rashford goes, expect United to move fast.

That’s a lot of moving parts for one summer. But United has shown they’re not afraid to make multiple moves. Summerville could be the next name to cross the line.
