Kyshawn George Says the Wizards Are Coming. The Rest of the NBA Should Listen.

The Washington Wizards went 17-65 last season. That’s bad. Really bad. But inside their locker room, nobody seems to care about the record.

Kyshawn George is the guy who said it loudest. The 6-foot-8 wing told reporters ahead of the 2026-27 season that the outside perception of this team as a perpetual rebuild is about to get flipped. His message was simple and direct.

“Just know that we’re coming,” George said.

That quote landed on social media and immediately got people talking. Not because the Wizards are some title contender. They’re not. But because George said it with enough conviction that you almost believe him.

The Wizards added the No. 1 overall pick this offseason in AJ Dybantsa. He joins a young core that already includes George, Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, and Bub Carrington. That’s a lot of length and athleticism. All of them are 22 or younger. The team’s future is basically walkable to practice together.

George’s breakout got cut short

Before a left elbow injury ended his 2025-26 season in March, George was averaging 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. He was playing starter minutes and looking like the kind of two-way player you build around. The injury was a partial UCL tear. Nasty but not career-altering. He’s back now and says he’s fully healthy.

His rookie year was solid — 8.7 points, 4.2 boards, 2.5 assists while setting franchise rookie records for three-point shooting. The jump to Year 2 was real. He became a full-time starter. The shooting held up. The playmaking got better. The defense was always there.

So yeah, the optimisim inside the building makes some sense. The Wizards have collected a bunch of tall, skilled, switchable guys who can all handle the ball. That’s the modern NBA template. They just need time to grow into it.

Will they be good next season? Probably not in the standings sense. The East is still loaded. But they might be fun. They might be annoying to play against. And George seems to think that’s the first step toward something bigger.

He didn’t guarantee a playoff spot. He didn’t call his shot on a specific win total. He just said they’re coming. That’s enough for now.
