Moses Moody is entering his sixth NBA season with the Golden State Warriors, and he still has no idea if he’ll be in the Bay Area by the time the calendar flips to 2027. And honestly? He’s not exactly sweating it.
The 24-year-old wing told The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II that he’s had a few conversations with his agent, Rich Paul, just to stay in the loop. But he hasn’t heard a word from the Warriors front office about his role or future with the team.
“I’m curious, so I had some conversations just trying to figure out what’s going on,” Moody said. “But I don’t call Rich every day. I’m not in it like that because I ain’t got nothing to do with how it’s gonna go down. So I’m more so just watching. … Whenever something needs to be talked about is when it will.”
That’s pretty chill for a guy whose name keeps popping up in trade rumors. But Moody knows the drill. The Warriors are trying to squeeze one more title run out of their aging core — which, according to initial reports, could mean chasing LeBron James and Anthony Davis this offseason. Those original rumors had the Warriors discussing a Davis trade from Washington with LeBron joining as a free agent. The Davis chatter has cooled off, but the LeBron watch is still on.
What Does LeBron Mean for Moody’s Spot?
If LeBron picks Golden State — most reports have Cleveland or Miami as the frontrunners — the Warriors would almost certainly need to move salary to make it work. Moody’s contract is one of the few movable pieces they have. Thompson II pointed out that Golden State’s only realistic trade assets are draft picks, Kristaps Porziņģis’ $20 million salary, or Moody himself.
That’s not exactly a comforting place to be for a young player who just set career highs in points (12.1) and minutes (25.7) per game last season while shooting 40 percent from three. Moody has been a steady, low-drama presence in the Warriors’ rotation for five years. Teammates and coaches love him. But the business side of the NBA doesn’t care much about sentiment.
His Agent Isn’t Panicking Either
Moody said he’s checked in with Paul but has mostly avoided the endless chatter about what the Warriors might do. “I don’t call Rich every day,” he said flatly. He’s not glued to trade machines or Woj bombs. He’s watching like the rest of us.
The Warriors haven’t done much to clarify his situation, either. Moody said he hasn’t heard directly from the organization, which isn’t unusual for players in his position. Teams don’t always loop in guys who might be trade bait until a deal is close. But the silence is still notable.
If LeBron doesn’t come to Golden State, the Warriors probably still want to add another dynamic piece. And they don’t have many ways to do it without moving Moody. So either way, his name is going to keep floating around until something happens.
For now, Moody is 24, shooting 40 percent from deep and waiting to see if he’s part of the Warriors’ next chapter or a chip in someone else’s.
