Manchester United Pulls Out of Ederson Deal After Medical Raised Concerns

Fabrizio Romano confirmed it late Tuesday. Ederson to Manchester United is dead. The Brazilian midfielder won’t be moving to Old Trafford this summer after all.

The deal looked done for weeks. United agreed a £35 million fee with Atalanta. The clubs shook hands. Ederson was supposed to have his medical in June. Then Brazil called him up for the World Cup and everything stalled.

Brazil got knocked out by Norway. That cleared the way for Ederson to finally take his physical. But something went wrong. Reports started circulating about potential issues with his fitness. United ordered a more detailed follow-up exam. That second round of checks apparently changed their minds.

Romano posted on X that United informed Atalanta the deal was off. His exact words: “EXCL: Éderson to Manchester United, deal OFF and considered as collapsed as Man Utd informed Atalanta.” He added that Atalanta believes Ederson is 100 percent fit and will welcome him back into the squad.

Gianluca Di Marzio backed that up with his own report. He said the Red Devils decided not to proceed after further medical checks today. “Manchester United recently informed Atalanta that they are not continuing,” Di Marzio wrote.

So what happened exactly? Nobody’s saying for sure. United hasn’t released a statement. Atalanta insists their guy is fine. But the club made a U-turn and that rarely happens without a reason.

Meanwhile, United is closing in on Andrey Santos from Chelsea. He already passed his physical. An official announcement should come any day now.

As for Ederson, he heads back to Italy. Atalanta gets to keep a midfielder they never really wanted to sell. And United moves on with Plan B.
