Anthony Davis is going to play for the Washington Wizards next season. At least that’s what his agent says.
Rich Paul appeared on “Game Over” this week alongside co-host Max Kellerman, who tried to poke around for any hint of a potential trade involving the nine-time All-Star. Kellerman didn’t get much.
“Is Anthony Davis going to play for the Wizards?” Kellerman asked.
“Yes. Why wouldn’t he?” Paul responded.
Kellerman pressed further: “Because of something in the works?”
“I don’t know anything about that,” Paul said.
The exchange was brief and telling. Paul, who represents LeBron James, Draymond Green, De’Aaron Fox and a host of other NBA stars, didn’t bite on the bait. Whether he genuinely doesn’t know or simply wasn’t going to feed the rumor mill on live TV is anyone’s guess. But given his track record — he claimed ignorance before Davis was traded to Dallas last year — it’s not hard to imagine he’s playing things close to the vest.
The Warriors rumor that won’t die
Reports have circled for weeks that Golden State is considering a trade for Davis. The logic goes like this: bring in the big man, and maybe LeBron follows. The Warriors apparently believe pairing Davis with Stephen Curry (and whatever else is left of the old core) could be enough to lure James away from Los Angeles in free agency or via a separate deal.
Washington, for its part, isn’t just giving Davis away. According to reports, the Wizards have asked for Jimmy Butler, multiple first-round picks and multiple second-round picks in exchange for the one-time champion. That’s a steep asking price for a player who has dealt with a long list of injuries over the years, but the Wizards aren’t in a rush to move him if the return isn’t there.
Davis says he wants to stay
Davis himself has publicly stated he wants to remain in Washington. He’s talked about helping the franchise build something and restore a winning culture. The Wizards have assembled an interesting roster around him — Trae Young, Khris Middleton, Alex Sarr, Deandre Ayton, Bilal Coulibaly and a handful of other young pieces. If healthy, that group could surprise people in the East.
But health has always been the question with Davis. And the Warriors know it. They also know that adding him might not just help them win now — it could change the entire landscape of the league if LeBron decides to join the party.
For now, Rich Paul isn’t giving anyone any answers. And Kellerman walked away empty-handed.
