WWE wanted Jalen Brunson in the ring at Madison Square Garden. That plan is dead.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the company hoped to have the Knicks star cross paths with Danhausen during the Saturday Night’s Main Event show on July 18, 2026. But Brunson recently underwent left wrist surgery. That rules out anything physical. The report says “rules out physical involvement” specifically. It makes sense. Brunson won’t even be doing basketball activities until later in the summer. Throwing him into a wrestling match would be stupid.
But here’s the thing. Team members were invited to the show. Several of them are expected to attend. And there’s still hope Brunson shows up and does something on-screen. He’s a huge WWE fan. So it’s not out of the question that he’s in the building, maybe cuts a promo or just gets shown on camera.
Danhausen already has one of the two confirmed matches for the card. He’s facing JD McDonagh from Judgment Day in a singles match. The other confirmed bout is a tag team match for the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Paige and Brie Bella will defend against Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid, who represent Fatal Influence.
It’s worth remembering that Danhausen played a weird but real role in the Knicks’ championship run. Some fans credit him with lifting a supposed curse on the team. The Knicks went on a 13-game win streak after he got involved. They beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals. Brunson scored 45 points in Game 5 to seal it and took home Finals MVP.
So while Brunson won’t be throwing hands with Danhausen at MSG, the connection between the two is still alive. Brunson attending the show would be a nice moment. Seeing him and Danhausen in the same building would at least give the crowd something to buzz about. Whether that turns into an actual segment remains to be seen. WWE hasn’t confirmed anything beyond the two matches already announced.
