A former assistant to ex-Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is taking the university to court, but not over the affair that got him fired. Paige Shiver filed a lawsuit Wednesday arguing that Michigan violated the state’s Freedom of Information Act by refusing to hand over records she’s been asking for since February.
Shiver worked as Moore’s assistant before he was dismissed from the program last year. She has publicly claimed Moore got her pregnant and that she had an abortion due to medical complications. Now she wants the documents to back up her side of the story.
The Records She’s After
According to court filings obtained by TMZ, Shiver first requested audio recordings, video footage and interview transcripts involving herself, her father and Moore back in February 2026. Michigan denied it, saying there was still an ongoing investigation.
She tried again last month. The university rejected that request too — this time arguing it was overly broad and vague.
Shiver also specifically asked for emails between Moore and athletic director Warde Manuel that contained keywords like “affair,” “discipline,” “abortion,” “pregnancy” and “baby.” Michigan refused, saying those communications fall under exempt information under the law.
What She’s Asking For
The lawsuit doesn’t challenge the findings of the investigation that led to Moore’s firing. It’s purely about whether the university improperly withheld records that should be public. Shiver is asking a judge to order Michigan to release everything she requested.
This is the latest legal fallout from the Moore saga, and it shifts the focus from what happened between them to whether the university played fair with public records. Michigan hasn’t commented on the lawsuit yet.
Shiver’s filing argues that the university’s responses have been inconsistent and that the law requires disclosure unless a specific exemption applies. She’s not asking for damages — just the documents.
