Angel Reese has been in Atlanta for all of a few months and she’s already plotting her next move. And it’s not just about basketball.
The Atlanta Dream rookie sat down with Brian Hamilton of The Athletic and casually dropped that she wants to work with Tyler Perry. You know, the guy who built a massive film and TV empire right there in Atlanta. Reese made it sound like the most natural thing in the world.
“I think everybody knows and sees my life, from my podcast to modeling to film,” Reese said. “I mean, Tyler Perry’s here. I would love to work with Tyler Perry. I would love to do a lot more things in the community.”
She’s not wrong about that. Reese has already turned herself into a brand that goes way beyond basketball. She’s got the podcast. She’s done the modeling. Film feels like the next logical step. And if you’re going to be in Atlanta, why not go straight to the guy who basically runs the entertainment scene there?
More Than Just Hoops
But Reese isn’t just thinking about red carpets and cameos. She’s thinking about what she can give back. During that same interview, she talked about building a basketball court in Chicago when she was there. Now she wants to do the same in Atlanta. Maybe a back-to-school event too.
“I have a lot of great things coming that I haven’t really spoken about yet,” she said. “But I’m going to do a lot of great things for Atlanta. Because they’ve showed me nothing but love.”
That kind of thing matters. Especially in a league where players don’t always get the kind of mainstream attention that fuels big community projects. Reese is one of those rare athletes who brings eyeballs everywhere she goes. And she seems to get that with that attention comes responsibility.
The timing makes sense too. The Dream are in a bit of a rough stretch right now, but nobody’s panicking. Reese has been a bright spot since joining the team. She’s putting up numbers, drawing crowds, and making the kind of noise that usually takes years to build. She’s doing it in a couple of months.
Atlanta is the kind of city where stars can grow their brand fast. It’s got the media presence. It’s got the entertainment industry. It’s got a fan base that shows up. Reese clearly sees the potential. She’s not shy about saying she wants to be part of something bigger here.
No word yet on whether Perry has responded. But if Reese keeps playing the way she has and keeps making these kinds of moves off the court, it’s probably just a matter of time before that conversation happens. She’s proven she can juggle a lot of things at once. The next step is getting in the room with the right people.
And in Atlanta, there might not be a better person to talk to than Tyler Perry.
