Von Miller Posted a Photoshopped Cowboys Jersey. Dallas Might Actually Need Him.

Von Miller is not the kind of guy who usually begs for a job. But here we are.

The future Hall of Fame linebacker posted a photoshopped image of himself in a Dallas Cowboys uniform on his Instagram story this week. DFW Sports Hot Takes picked it up and shared it on X (formerly Twitter). The caption was basically just a hype emoji. But the message was clear: Miller wants to play in Dallas.

Is it desperate? Maybe a little. But the man is a Super Bowl MVP with 129.5 career sacks. He’s earned the right to campaign.

Miller spent last season with the Washington Commanders, Dallas’s NFC East rival, and still managed to produce. He’s not the same edge rusher who terrorized offenses in Denver during his prime. Nobody expects that. But he can still win one-on-one matchups and he brings a presence to a locker room that’s hard to quantify. The fact that he’s still unsigned this close to training camp is a little weird. Then again, the market for aging pass rushers is weird every year.

The Cowboys have already made moves to fix a defense that was legitimately bad in 2025. They drafted Caleb Downs in the first round back in April. They signed some veteran help in free agency. But they still have questions at linebacker and edge depth. Micah Parsons can’t do everything by himself. Well, maybe he can, but the rest of the defense shouldn’t test that.

Dallas missed the playoffs two years in a row despite Dak Prescott putting up arguably the best regular season of his career in 2025. The offense wasn’t the problem. The defense was. And the coaching staff knows it. Jerry Jones has never been shy about making a splash signing that gets people talking. A Von Miller signing would do that. It would also give defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer a veteran who understands how to set an edge and rush the passer in critical moments.

There’s no word yet from the Cowboys front office about whether they’ve even reached out. The team has not confirmed interest. But Miller’s social media post feels like a nudge. A loud one.

He’s 37 now. He’s not going to play forever. But Miller clearly wants another shot at a ring. And if Dallas thinks their defense is one veteran pass rusher away from being dangerous again, they could do a lot worse than a guy who has 12 career playoff sacks and a history of showing up in big moments.

This is probably going to come down to money. Miller isn’t getting a mega deal at this point. But he might want more than a veteran minimum. And the Cowboys have to figure out if signing him would block a younger player from getting reps. Those are fair questions. But the fact that Miller is publicly putting on a Dallas uniform in a photoshopped picture tells you he’s already made up his mind about where he wants to be.
