David Ortiz got handed a phone on stage at Fenway Park, and you already know what happened next.
The Red Sox legend was the surprise caller during Noah Kahan’s second sold-out show at Fenway on Wednesday, July 8. It’s a bit the singer does before his song “She Calls Me Back” — someone famous rings in, and the crowd hears the conversation. Earlier in the run, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye got the nod. Night two belonged to Big Papi.
Ortiz didn’t waste time with pleasantries. He hyped up the crowd, called it a special night, and then dropped the line everyone in Boston was waiting for.
“There’s one more thing more special than being at Fenway Park,” he said. “Daaaa Yankees lose! Go, Sox!”
The place erupted. It was classic Ortiz — a Hall of Famer who never misses a chance to poke the enemy, even at a folk concert.

What else happened at Night 2
The show itself had plenty of moments beyond the phone call. Kahan played 25 songs, including the live debut of “Lighthouse” from the deluxe edition of The Great Divide (subtitled The Last of the Bugs). He pulled that one out during his set on the C-stage, which is the smaller secondary stage he uses for the intimate stuff.
He also dusted off “Mess” from his debut album Busyhead. That one hadn’t been played on this tour since October 1, 2025, in Stowe, Vermont. So yeah, deep cut for the diehards.
And for “She Calls Me Back,” Kahan brought out his opener, Gigi Perez, to sing it with him. Nice touch — giving the opening act a moment on the big stage.
The full setlist
Kahan played four nights at Fenway. Here’s what he ran through on night two:
“American Cars,” “Doors,” “All My Love,” “Deny Deny Deny,” “Staying Still,” “Haircut,” “Downfall,” “Mess,” “She Calls Me Back” (with Gigi Perez), “Dashboard,” “Dial Drunk,” “We Go Way Back,” “Porch Light,” “Orbiter,” “Maine,” “Paid Time Off,” “Lighthouse” (live debut), “The View Between Villages,” “Northern Attitude,” “The Great Divide,” “Orange Juice,” “New Perspective.” Encore: “End of August,” “Homesick,” “Stick Season.”
Not a bad way to spend a summer night at Fenway. Even if you’re a Yankees fan. (Well, maybe not.)
