Dodgers Blow a Lead to the Rockies. Dave Roberts Says They’ll Just Flush It.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost a game Tuesday night they probably should have won. Up 3-1 on the Colorado Rockies heading into the eighth inning, shortstop Miguel Rojas made a costly error and reliever Will Klein couldn’t finish the job. The Rockies scored three runs in that frame and held on for a 4-3 win. It was the kind of loss that can sting for a while.

But Dodgers manager Dave Roberts isn’t interested in letting it linger. Speaking to reporters before Wednesday’s series finale, Roberts was blunt about how his team handles those moments.

“We’re really good at flushing it,” Roberts said. “You just can’t let the day’s game carry over, certainly after a tough loss.”

That might sound like coachspeak, but the Dodgers have the track record to back it up. They haven’t lost a series since June 19-21, when the Baltimore Orioles took two of three from them. Since then, they’ve swept the Minnesota Twins, taken two of three from the San Diego Padres, done the same against the Athletics, and then won three of four in a return series against the Padres. That’s four straight series wins, a stretch that started right after the Orioles series.

Flushing It Is a Habit, Not a Cliché

The Dodgers have been here before. Two-time defending World Series champions don’t get rattled easily. Roberts knows that if his team starts piling one bad loss on top of another, the season can spiral. But so far, the Dodgers have shown an almost mechanical ability to reset. A bad night ends, and the next day is a new game. It’s a mindset that’s harder to maintain than it sounds, especially when a loss comes off a preventable error and a bullpen slip-up.

Roberts’ message is simple: don’t overthink it. The Dodgers have enough talent to win most nights, and they’ve proven they can bounce back quickly. The question is whether that resilience holds when the games matter more in October.

Good News on the Pitching Front

Before Wednesday’s game, the Dodgers also got a positive update on reliever Edwin Diaz. He’s been recovering from a shoulder injury, and he completed a second live batting practice session against hitters. According to the team, Diaz is close to being sent to the minor leagues for a rehab assignment. That’s a big step toward getting him back in a big league uniform. The Dodgers bullpen has been solid, but adding Diaz would give them another high-leverage arm down the stretch.

So for now, the Dodgers are doing what they do. They lost a game they shouldn’t have, and they’re moving on. As Roberts put it, they’re good at flushing it. The Rockies game is already in the rearview mirror.
