Jalen Brown is looking for his fourth college home. The Arkansas wide receiver entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Wednesday, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, after a legal charge against him was dismissed.
Brown was arrested on a charge of hindering apprehension earlier this year. That charge has now been dismissed. His agent confirmed the news to Zenitz. Brown posted his own goodbye to Arkansas on social media, thanking people for supporting him through the legal situation and promising to let his actions “speak louder than my past.”
It’s been a winding road for the former top-70 recruit. Brown started his college career at LSU in 2023, then transferred to Florida State. He landed at Arkansas as stop No. 3, where he started last season before a season-ending injury cut things short. In five games with the Razorbacks, he caught 20 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns. That’s across 17 total games played in three seasons.
Now he’s entering the portal at an awkward time. The main NCAA transfer window doesn’t open until January 2. So Brown might have to wait until the 2027 season to actually suit up somewhere else. That’s a real possibility unless he gets a waiver or finds a program willing to work around the calendar.
Arkansas Turns the Page
Meanwhile, Arkansas is heading into a new era under Ryan Silverfield, who left Memphis to take over as head coach. Silverfield becomes the Razorbacks’ sixth different head coach since 1998. That’s a lot of turnover for a program that’s been trying to find stability in the SEC.
Brown won’t be part of that rebuild. He’s now looking for his fourth school, and the clock is ticking. He’s still only a couple years removed from high school, but the production hasn’t matched the recruiting hype yet. Some programs might take a flier on the talent. Others might wait and see how the legal situation fully shakes out, even though the charge was dismissed.
Brown posted a simple message on social media: “Gods Plan.” That was it. No long explanation, no bitterness. Just a tweet with a link to his highlights and that caption. The receiver clearly wants to move forward.
Whether he gets that chance in 2026 or has to sit out until 2027 depends on how the portal rules play out. Either way, Arkansas has already moved on. And Brown is hoping his next stop is his last.
