The New York Mets are making moves again, and this time it’s all about the arms. Right before Wednesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals, the club announced a handful of roster changes that shuffle up the bullpen and send Austin Warren to the injured list.
Warren is headed to the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain. That’s the official diagnosis anyway. The timing is interesting because his last two outings were brutal. Nine earned runs across those appearances, and his ERA ballooned to 4.63 with a WHIP of 1.486. Before that stretch, the 30-year-old was pitching reasonably well. Maybe the IL stint gives him a chance to reset and come back stronger for the second half.
Who’s coming up
Xzavion Curry got the call to the big league roster. He hasn’t pitched in the majors yet this season after spending 2025 with the Miami Marlins. The Mets have to be curious what they’ve got there.
Tobias Myers is also back, recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. His 2026 campaign started rough. Really rough. In 24 appearances, he’s got a 6.21 ERA and a 1.381 WHIP with 32 strikeouts. The Mets are hoping a fresh look from the bullpen might turn things around.
One guy goes out
Matt Seelinger got designated for assignment. That’s a tough break, but Tuesday night didn’t do him any favors. He came in during the Mets’ 16-12 loss to Kansas City and just couldn’t find the zone. Five hits, four walks, and seven earned runs in only two innings. That kind of line gets you a one-way ticket back to DFA limbo.
