The Los Angeles Rams made a bunch of moves this offseason. They look like the team to beat in the NFC. And now they’ve got the guy who just wrecked the single-season sack record.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler dropped his latest NFL position ranking Wednesday, this time on edge rushers. He polled over 70 scouts, executives and coaches across the league. And the result was weirdly unanimous.
Myles Garrett got every single No. 1 vote.
That basically never happens in these exercises. There’s always some contrarian who throws a vote to a younger guy or a scheme-specific fit. Not this time. “It’s a clean sweep for Garrett,” Fowler wrote. “That’s rare for this exercise, which usually features at least one detractor.”
The 23-sack season that broke the record
Garrett put up 23 sacks in 2025. That broke the old record shared by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. But the wild part is how he did it while playing for a bad Browns team. Cleveland wasn’t competitive last year. Opposing offenses knew Garrett was the only real threat on that defense. They still couldn’t stop him.
He also racked up 33 tackles for loss. One NFL coordinator told Fowler that Garrett doesn’t get enough credit for sheer power. “Everyone talks about Aaron Donald’s power, but Myles is just as strong.”
That comparison is going to get a lot more interesting if Donald actually comes out of retirement. The Rams have left the door open for him. Imagine offensive lines trying to double-team Garrett with Donald on the other side. It’s not fair.
Garrett’s best shot at a ring
The 30-year-old edge rusher is playing at his peak. And now he’s on a roster built to win now. The Rams traded for him this offseason, pairing him with a loaded offense and a defense that already had young talent. Sean McVay has a history of getting creative with his pass rushers. It’ll be fascinating to see how he deploys Garrett — whether he kicks him inside on passing downs, lines him up all over the formation or just lets him hunt from the edge the way he always has.
Garrett has never played a postseason game with this kind of supporting cast. The Browns made the playoffs once during his tenure, but that was with a defense that carried the whole team. Now he’s surrounded by stars on both sides of the ball.
The only question is whether the Rams can stay healthy. They’ve been aggressive. They’ve stacked talent. And they’ve got the best pass rusher on the planet. Every Super Bowl conversation starts with them for a reason.
